An experienced speaker in Toronto with the capacity to cater to a variety of audiences, Emily Wright is praised for her ability to speak frankly about real social justice issues to people of all ages. Through her personal story of struggle and resilience, Emily speaks publicly to raise awareness about important issues related to mental health, homelessness, bullying, addiction, and inclusion. She is a member of two speaker’s bureaus and is a regular guest lecturer at the University of Toronto, Ryerson University, George Brown College and various elementary and secondary schools across the GTA.
With a special ability to speak to people of all ages, Emily Wright tries to make a difference in the world, by using her personal voice and story to confront stigma and create awareness on important topics. Through the deconstruction of social justice issues, Emily presents ‘big world’ problems to students in elementary, middle and high schools in a developmentally appropriate and compassionate way. Often in high demand on Pink Shirt Day, and during Mental Health Awareness Week, Emily Wright ’s talent for provoking stigma, while generating hope and empathy is certain to empower any audience.

My Story
Emily Wright has a Master’s degree in Teaching from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education, where she conducted research on stereotypes about homelessness depicted in children’s literature. She currently works as a curriculum consultant, speaker, and teacher for the Toronto Catholic District School Board.
After living through childhood and adulthood bullying, mental illness, addiction and homelessness, Emily uses her intimate experiences to support others across the Greater Toronto Area. She finds joy in sharing her story with others and uses it to reveal the lasting effects of bullying, the cohabitation of privilege and oppression, and the influence of resiliency. Emily Wright’s voice can make a difference; her story has the power to impact others and create change.
